It has been a very hard Month for me. SIX of my eight babies turned out to be Roosters. I haven't been processing it very well and sadly I could not keep them due to city laws. The first one to leave was Susanna. He found a home on a farm about 25 miles away. He gets 5 acres all to himself with 15 hens. It was a hard day to see him go. The next two to go had been Aphrodite and Athena, two of my three Lavender Orpingtons. My triplets are now down to one. Artemis is a sole surving female. Sadly, we had issues after they left. It seemed that Alpha Beech and Uncle Marty started picking on Graygray. Bad enough they put a hole in her neck and we had to seperate. It was horrible and very hard to deal with. A week later Alpha Beech and Uncle Marty had been rehomed. Now, I was suspecting that Chickadee was also a Rooster because of the legs and how she would stand, and sure enough the very next day, he crowed. However, Chickadee is my daughter's favorite chicken. I couldn't get rid of him. So now I have a Rooster that I am not supposed to have, and I am just going to deal with the consequences if they arise. Hopefully, nothing happens.
With that being said, I was down to the three chickens. Chickadee, Graygray and Artemis are the three I was left with. After everyone else left it took a few days for Graygray to start coming back out and she did. She is now coming out and her wound is healing, thank goodness!
Two weeks have gone by and I decided to get a few more hens. I did order some that are older so they could just be aclimated and go right out with them. They are two Amberlinked ladies that I have named Eleos and Helia. I also have a Ayem Cemani on order that should be here soon. I picked up Helia and Eleos today and they are now seperated to make sure there is no potential for disease transfer if there is any. It is also very hot here in comparison from where they come from, so I want to aclimated them as stressfree as possible.
Once I am able I will come back and update this thread! I keep getting pulled away for school things.
